The Loire Valley is the largest area in France ever included in Unesco's list of World Heritage sites as a cultural, living landscape. It has been listed since November 2000. The area is 280 km in length and extends over 800 km2 from Sully-sur-Loire in the "Centre" region to Chalonnes-sur-Loire in the Pays de la Loire region. In fact, it covers 2 regions, 4 "counties", 6 cities, 11 rural districts, 1 regional country park and 160 towns and villages - with a total population of 1.2 million.

The aim of the visitors' centre is to provide information about the environmental, historic and human heritage of the Loire Valley, to preserve and promote all that it has to offer. Throughout the year, the team organise seven different events in the magnificent natural surroundings or in the laboratory.
